ABOUT GARY

My name is Gary. I live in Los Angeles. Studio City to be exact.

During high school I worked at the legendary Catch A Rising Star comedy club.

I am an art school drop-out.

My first job in TV was holding cue cards and doing set and prop designs for The Joan Rivers Show.

I lived in New York City during my 20’s, ironically I am still 26.

Long hours at MTV, VH1, Food Network, Lifetime, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Geraldo, Rolonda, Montel, and a handful of Off-Off Broadway theaters helped pay the rent.
I hosted and produced two public access shows.

I co-hosted a national show called Treasures In Your Home with my friend John Burke.

I hosted red carpet movie events, became Joan Rivers’ in-studio writer on her syndicated radio show and wrote some other funny stuff for comic friends.

I worked with Dan Zanes and helped him launch his Grammy winning kids music revolution, wrote for At The Multiplex on HBO and produced a monthly variety show at Carolines Comedy Club.

In 2001 I decided to move to Los Angeles…actually, the stock market crash, all of my shows getting canceled & September 11th helped that decision.

In Los Angeles I auditioned like crazy and continued to Art Direct and Production Design for television.

Ever see Girls Behaving Badly on Oxygen…I Production Designed all four seasons.

Shock Video on HBO? Did that too.

I spent the fall of 2002 in France writing for a little show you may have heard of called Joe Millionaire.

Around this time I started developing a show called #1 Single with Lisa Loeb.

Two years later E! Entertainment picked it up and I spent the winter of 2005 in New York City making it happen.

I am a member of the Art Directors Guild (Local 800).

I art directed all four seasons of Mind Of Mencia on Comedy Central, Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil, Shark Tank for ABC and Top Chef Masters for Bravo

Production Designed Chocolate News for Comedy Central, The League for FX, Guinness World Records Live for NBC and Workaholics for Comedy Central.

I created an MTV reality show for a band called Shut Up Stella, a pilot called Celebrity for TV Land and a reality show for songwriter, and former American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi.

In 2007 I spent six months developing and shooting a comeback reality show for Ike Turner and now have a couple amazing boxes of tapes with his last months alive. We are now developing the definitive Ike documentary.

I have a production company with my friend Janet Billig called Sixteen Blue (named after the Replacements song) to make all of these projects come together.

I have listened to The Howard Stern Show every single day since 1983.

I buy way too much music. Especially vinyl.

I have an amazing wife who is 100 times more talented and clever than I am.

My sister Jamie rules.

I wear black t shirts.

I saw Andy Warhol walking in Soho in 1987.

I got married in October 2008.

I work with the most talented crew of Set Decorators, Graphic Designers, Prop Masters, Set Dressers, Buyers, Leadmen and Swing crew in Hollywood.

I have two dogs named Oliver and Daphne.

I need to sign off now.
